[rudder-dev] Package management issues in Rudder

Hi,

We are currently planning improvements for package management in Rudder, 
see http://www.rudder-project.org/redmine/issues/8230 for details.

The currently identified issues are:

  * Impossibility to install latest available version using ncf generic
    methods
  * Impossibility to install latest available version APT package
    management technique
  * Impossibility to update or install if necessary in a single action
    using RPM and APT techniques
  * Package actions are generally slow due to delays in package
    list/available update list update, particularly when using only ncf

We want to add the missing features to the technique and generic 
methods, and make the list update behavior more configurable.

Do you see any other issue or inconvenience encountered when managing 
packages with Rudder?
