Bug #8164
closedCompliance progress bar keeps scrolling
Description
Hello,
As seen with Nicolas, we discovered that two test agents on Windows 2012 R2 were unable to fetch their promises, so the compliance progress bars kept scrolling.
It appears that the system clock was too ahead when the agent was installed, and we synchronized it with NTP after the setup.
Here is the workaround:
- Delete C:\Program Files\Cfengine\inputs
- Retry to fetch the promises with cf-agent.exe KIf failsafe.cf Rerun the agent with cf-agent.exe -KI
A the moment, we don't know if it's really a clock / NTP issue.
Thanks.

- Category set to System techniques
- Symptoms: node doesn't show up in compliance (all is pending/missing). Running cf-agent.exe -Kf failsafe.cf doesn't report any error on the node
- Promises on the nodes are a mixup of initial promises, and promises distributed (there is a rudder_promise_generated and rudder_promises_generated.tmp), plus extra folders, but when running the agent, the promises are clearly initial promises (promises.cf didn't change at all)
- No error on client-server communication.
- Purging rudder_promise_generated and rudder_promises_generated.tmp solves the issue
I tried to reproduce it multiple time, with 3.2.0, 3.2.1 and 3.2.2 server, with a Windows 2012R2, US language, without successs
Alexandre, could you reproduce it ? What is your system locale ? Do you have some specific ACLs on C:\Program Files\ ?
Kind regards

Hello Nicolas,
We have performed the following tasks on our Windows node:
- Reinstallation of the guest OS ;
- NTP settings + synchronization ;
- Installation of rudder-agent ;
- cf-agent.exe KIf failsafe.cf ; cf-agent.exe -KI
and everything works, without having to remove the promises file.
I have also upgraded the server to 3.2.2 in the mean time, but I don't know if it helped.
Anyways, I believe that you can close this ticket, I will get back to you if we reproduce the issue again.
Thanks.
