Description

From what I read, I believe the cf engine agent can run on an esx host. IT would be very useful for rudder to run on this platform, implemented maybe as a pay-for plugin.

Hello Hamlyn,

Even if I reconn it would be nice, it is not planned for now. It may change depending of customer interest or sponsored development (but actually for now, we don't know how technically challanging - or even if possible - it would be).

I don't know the extent of the capabilities of the cfengine agent that runs on ESX hosts, but even if rudder functionality were limited to file and process manipulation (that is, no package management functions), it would be extremely useful due to the post-execution hooks built in to those techniques.

For what I know, cfengine agent doesn't work on ESXi (ESX is deprecated since long ago).
We don't even know how to build a binary for esxi.

It could however be interesting to have some ncf generic method to call vmware api.
